Oil tycoon Asa Buchanan (Phil Carey) doesn't always fight fair and there aren't too many people who are willing to stand up to the powerful business man let alone give him a taste of his own medicine except Rae Cummings (Linda Dano). Unfortunately for Rae, her well-guarded secret was exposed in a very public way. Now everyone in Llanview knows that she is not a therapist. Instead of treating patients, her days are now filled with fending off lawsuits and public humiliation, most of which has been instigated by Asa.

Rae decided to put her foot down and blackmail Asa with his own words — an incriminating tape of his therapy session. Just when it looked like Asa was about to reconcile with his ex-wife Renee Diving (Patricia Elliott), Rae blackmailed him into marriage just to insure his total cooperation. She now holds the title of the 12th Mrs. Asa Buchanan. Asa has not given up the fight and may enlist the help of Rae's former friend Hank Gannon (Nathan Purdee) to free himself of his newest wife.

Rae traveled to Pine Valley, thinking she'd find Daniel, her missing husband. He has news about their child who Rae thought died at birth. She has built a relationship with Tad Martin, who Rae apparently knew in San Francisco. As she got to know Adam, Liza, Dixie and tried to help Alexandra, she learned that she was adopted herself. Myrtle Fargate is her biological mother and that puts her head to head with Erica as the two women vie for Myrtle's affections.

Next stop was General Hospital. Although Rae's stop was short, she got to meet a lot of your favorites including the devilish, Dr. Alan Quartermaine and his suspicious wife, Monica. We learned that Rae has had some business dealings with Edward. One of her college friends is Tony Jones. Sonny has some information which may lead us to that daughter who doesn't know she has a famous relationship counselor mother, Rae Cummings.
